¤· Management Evaluation of KEPCO
- The starting point of restructuring in Korea was the decision to conduct d management evaluation of KEPCO made by the 'Government Agency Management Evaluation Committee' in October, 1993
- This evaluation was conducted by private specialized companies. Restructuring and gradual privatization of KEPCO were recommended, and the formation of a special committee devoted to preparing concrete measures was suggested.
¤· Establishment of the Electricity Supply Industry restructuring Committee
- The 'Electricity Supply Industry Restructuring Committee', consisting of 12 specialists from various fields, was formed in June, 1997. The committee held 12 meetings until December, 1998m and prepared the framework for restructuring
¤· Confirmation and Actualization of the Baisc Plan for restructuring the Electricity Supply Industry
- The government prepared the 'Basic Plan for Restructuring the Electricity Supply industry' based on the framework created by the Electricity Supply Industry Restructuring Committee. The government held a public hearing on the Plan in November of 1998, and fianlized it in January, 1999.
- The bills relating to the Plan, including those the 'Act on Promotion of Restructuring of the Electricity Supply Industry' and Amendment of the 'Electricity Business Act', were laid before the National Assembly in December, 1999, but were tabled. The bills were laid before the National Assembly in Decemberm 2000, and were eventually passed and came into effect.
